I am not a hunter. I am not opposed to hunting...it was just not something we did in the big city where I grew up. But there are a lot of high school student-athletes in the Ozarks who spend quite a bit of time hunting.

Pierce City just won its second district title in program history, while top-ranked Crane is still smarting after last year's one-point state quarterfinal loss. The Eagles beat the Pirates in the Sectional round two years ago.

The good news for Pierce City is that the Lady Eagles just won their third-straight district championship. The bad news? Top-ranked and two-time defending state champion Crane waits in the Sectional round for the third-straight season.

Crane's Emma Lander is a junior standout who has already garnered All-State honors in multiple sports and won three state championships. Lander's athletic accomplishments pale in comparison to her faith, character and personality, though.

Who are the best boys basketball players in the history of the Ozarks? A decorated panel of experts with years and years of experience was put together to determine who the "best of the best" are in the annals of SWMO prep basketball.

The SWCL boys basketball race figures to be a tight one, with Crane and Blue Eye battling for top honors. Of course, Clever and Sparta will have a few things to say about that, as will Forsyth.

Crane has won the past two Class 2 state championships, and is a prohibitive favorite to make it a three-peat in March. There is plenty of talent in the SWCL (as usual), with several teams poised to make a deep state tourney run in March.

The 2012-13 school year has come to a close, and it was a memorable one for area high school sports teams and athletes. Joboo takes a look back on a memorable year and offers up The Golden Joboos for some deserving athletes, teams and events.

After the Crane Pirates won a state title in 2012, the Lady Pirates wanted a state crown of their own, and got it by using a smothering full court defensive effort to roll to a Class 2 state championship.

Led by standout senior Levi Cook’s near-triple double of 42 points, 15 rebounds and eight assists, the Crane Pirates captured the school’s first state championship in any sport.
